It was late when Sylvia got off from work, too late to stop at her regular grocery store to pick up the bread and milk, that her daughter wanted. Sylvia, a divorced mother of a teen-aged daughter, 38 years of age, fairly attractive yet fairly chubby too, had just put a double shift waiting tables at the 24/7 Diner. Since the store was closed she had no choice but to stop at the convenience mart near the housing projects, the only store still open at this hour.
Normally Sylvia had always tried to avoid stopping in this neighborhood due to the high crime rate... even stopping for traffic signals made her very uneasy. But tonight, the store was her only choice .. so she pulled in parking her car almost in front of the door. The store looked empty save the person behind the counter.. which she had only glanced at upon entering. Sylvia proceeded to gather the items she came for and make her way to the counter... that is when she saw the hand. The bloody hand on the floor behind the counter.. at the same time the attendant turned and she could see he was wearing a mask and holding a gun in one hand and a fist full of cash in the other. Sylvia was so scared she dropped her groceries and tried to scream .. but no sound came out as he started to raise the gun. He stopped and quickly moved around the counter... stripping off his mask ... grabbing Sylvia by the arm pressing the gun into her side. "Do as I say and I will let you go" he whispered in her ear. He kept looking past her and out into the parking lot. He urged her at gunpoint out of the store and made her get in the passenger side of her car and slide behind the wheel and he got in behind her. When she looked in the rearview mirror ... she saw what had him so panicked ...a police cruiser had pulled in and parked near the pay phone at the far end of the parking lot. The officer was out of his car and on the phone with his back to the store.
The robber told Sylia to calmly drive out of the parking lot ... and to just drive until he told her to stop. While she drove and the man was certain they were not being followed ... he started going through her purse .. pulling out her cash and tips for her days work, he also took her credit cards and ID. Sylvia kept driving ... not daring do anything to upset this criminal.
