    Unhappy Complaint from several readers

I've received complaints from several readers that some of my story parts were too wide to fit their browsers. I've been careful lately of the formatted size. When I went there to check it always fit my screen. Is there a problem with MSWord {I mean my formatting} that needs to be addressed?

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

no it is a problem with their setting they may have their fonts set too large or their screen resolution set too high ---it is the same size for everyone if it fits your screen when you check it ---then it is a setting problem on their computer

I reduced my font that was set at normal and my screen settings are at 1024 X 768 pixels it does not make any difference.

It looks as if your margins are not set properly. Your right margin is off the map. Check also that you are in Portrait mode not Landscape mode. Go to Page setup and double check your settings.

Try pinting a page to see if your margins are set properly. Once your margin are working reset your default.

The setting is for portrait and I reduced the margins in MSWord from 8 1/2 to 7 1/2 after the first complaint.

What version of Word are you using?

Left Margin should be set at 1.25". Right Margin should be set at 1.25". Your writing surface should be 6".

Try using another program to edit the file. openoffice.org has a suite of programs compatible with word, including spell check. And its free.

on the board they stories are in Htm format not word ---they are converted from word to htm ---and what I was saying is they appear correct to the majority of the readers which they must or you would be covered up in complaints and so would I ----then the one or two that do complain have a setting problem in their browser or on their computer ---I have recieved similar complaints about other stories ---only to go and check and they appear correctly in my browser---there is nothing we can do to suit every browsers or computer setting

one way to be sure how your storys will appear---when you are done instead of saving your work as a Doc file ---save it as a web page ---then no conversion is nessary ---you can submit the htm or html file just like you would a doc file ---to the site

    Cool

Yes, I did re-check the margins and the right is at 6 and the left at 1.25. {I was working from memory, probably an error} I just looked at the number of readers and compared to the number of complaints, it looks like it's just a miniscule number that are having problems. I don't want to sound too cavalier but, "You Can't Please All of the People All of the Time"

Parts 1 & 2 appear correctly and parts 3 & 4 are missing the end of the lines. All other stories appear correctly.

Here is an attachment showing the screen print from Part 4 & 1

ahhh I went back and checked ---I misunderstood ---from what you decribed I was expecting to have to scroll right to view the story ----see I read the story in its orginal form then convert it to htm---if you over run a margin it cuts off the words and that is what appears to have happened at first glance ---all appears to be in good order ---but when trying to read the story you see some words just cut off ----sorry I was confused ---yes if you have your margins set but over run them it cuts the words off ---best way to make sure this does not happen is ---to save your story as a doc ---then reopen it and try saving it as a web page ---word converts the doc file to a htm file --then open the htm file with your browser ---and try to read the story ----

I went back and edited chapter 4---to make it readable ---but the orginal chapter 3 had already been deleted from the system ----and I really do not have the time to edit each authors margins---you margins are set correctly but if you will notice there is a little arrow in the rule ---it must be set the same as your margin or it will allow you to over run your margin ---this little arrow is a stop---and that must be set no farther than the start of the darkened portion of your margin in the ruler

Thank You for all the stuff, I'll see to it that I have them all set correctly. I just want to write, not make work for R1.
