Ms Uther what program do you used to burn DVDs?
I spent months wrestling with the Windows XP CD burning, then went to my dealer, who handed me 'Nero CD burning' Since then I've never had any trouble. You can format a DVD or CD, copy or move files onto it, take them off again & so forth.
I can also burn music CDs which will play in my CD player. MP3 files should play on a CD player.
Note- a 4.75 Gig is a DVD, not a CD. Cds only hold about 700MB.
As far as I know, you need a CD to play in a CD player- a DVD will only work in more modern players.
Yeah I wouldn't recommend formatting your HDD on the PC, unless you know a bit about it. Have you done a defrag?
Also, have you thought of putting another HDD in your PC- you can easily double your storage space like that.
Check out this site- you can read Q&A without joining, but need to sign up to ask specific questions. You can do a search for specific info.

WinRAR works really well, but as RedEva says, just break the folder down a bit.
Hope that helps-have fun!
