A few years ago, I posted a story, "The Emperor's Daughter" onto the library in one complete five-chapter chunk. It went on to be my best received story, and deservedly so.

Last year I tried working on a sequel taking place immediately after, but it never clicked with me so I left it unfinished. This week, I have been working on a new sequel, taking place a full year later detailing her drastic social reshaping of her society.

If anybody here would read it and give me any thoughts on it, it would be much appreciated. I will be posting subsequent chapters as I finish them, and then with any feedback received, will revise and edit them before submitting them in bulk to the Library for publishing.

Effectively immediately, it is illegal across all the land and occupied territories for men and women of adult age to claim titles of nobility. All violators will become property of the state until the Empress Laura Kampf deems suitable.

“Are you sure this is the right way, Empress Laura?”

I looked to my head adviser, Roy Milton. He was boyish looking man in his thirties, the son of one of my father's key advisers that had been assigned to me as part of his training to inherit his father's position. With his father executed along with many of the emperor's closest aids, Roy quickly risen to fill the void. “It has been over six hundred years since these lands last allowed slavery. I'm not entirely sure that the people will accept this. Not at this scale. Two-percent of the adult population enslaved? That is a huge burden for the state to bear.”

Despite witnessing my methods at my prison, he had never grown accustomed to my sense of justice. “They'll learn to accept it. It will bring unimaginable wealth and pleasure to the masses if the highest class were to be possessed.” I understood that it would be a difficult change for society, but my mind was set. “It is done. Post fliers throughout the capital and the surrounding cities. Start gathering the most prominent families starting at nightfall. Make sure the guards leave them unabused and let them know that they'll get their turns eventually. I have something else in store for now.

He bowed. “Right away, Empress” He slid the documents into a portfolio and quickly stepped out of my meager and rarely used office in the military wing of Imperial Palace's complex.

First, all advisers and chiefs of departments that serve directly under me would be notified of the change. Then, Roy would bring copies to the Office of Propaganda for design and mass printing. These would then be posted throughout the city, and the guards had orders to immediately.

Many of the nobles wouldn't even hear about the new law until soldiers knocked at their doors. It's hardly fair, but that is life. One minute you're a free and snotty noble that feels on top of the world. The next, you're being huddled into waiting trucks at gunpoint on your way to a lifetime of miserable slavery.

The remnants of war still spark in the countryside in the form of sporadic skirmishes with rebels and stray divisions, but the capital is safe and stable. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that we will soon be victorious and the last enemy forces expelled from our borders. I have been crowned the first Empress Regnant of the Kampf Empire.

Roy believed we should wait a few months before enacting any grand plans to restructure society. However, his concerns were insufficient. The nobles no longer held power over any army, and even a small security force would be able to round them up given enough time. Now is the time to strike, to reform our society from the ground up into some more perfect.

I gave birth to a son during the year since I escaped from slavery. He is safe and healthy, raised by the finest nursemaids, doctors, and tutors that the empire has ever known. I am the only parent he will ever know, for he will never know his father.

But I still know his father, and intimately at that. With my business done for the day, I retreated to my chambers on the fourth floor of the Imperial manor.

It was still not redecorated to my liking. It had been years since I had last lived here regularly. During my father's reign, I occupied the warden's residency at Laura's Center for Behavior Modification so I could be close to my slaves and the sadistic pleasure that they brought me. For months after that, I was being held at the new capitol building in a private cell. After my conviction, I was sent back to my own center, this time as a prisoner. For the last year, I hid in the hills far out in the country at my father's former vacation spot.

My bedroom was as ornate as would be befitting of an Empress. Lush red carpet covered the floor. Desks and drawers of towering oak surrounded the room. Against the far wall in the middle, a grand bed, wider than almost any other and guarded by layers of red and pink silk.

Directly across from the bed was a mirror almost the width of the entire wall. I paused in front of it and took a long look at myself, reflecting on my appearance on this momentous day.

My name is Laura Maria Kampf. I am the only daughter of the first Emperor of the Kampf Empire, dead and gone now for almost two years. He was the best father a daughter could have, raising me alone, giving me anything and everything I ever wanted, and giving me a taste of the power that he eventually hoped that I would have after his passing. I used the power that he gave me with childish malice. Anybody that I wanted to emotionally destroy would be dragged to my prison in the dead of the night and sexually tortured. I had healed much over the last year, but some of my joints still hurt from the long weeks spent in stress positions. It is an inverted social hierarchy. For the first time in history, the poor and meek shall rule over those that were once the ruling class. Except for me, of course. Such a grand scheme needs an observer to lord over it all.

The mistake I made during my father's reign was clear. I took satisfaction in seeing my enemies brutalized, but nobody but me benefited for what happened behind the doors of my prison. This time things will be set right. The bounty will be shared with my subjects, and I will become a ruler that is both feared and loved.

Half-noble by her Father's lineage, Victoria never accepted the lifestyle of her birthright. Though as fair as her or any other member of the upper-class, she shunned the lifestyle of debutantes and housewives, instead focusing on her studies and life's ambitions. She wanted to be a politician, or an actress, a musician or an artist. Something that benefited from what she felt was a fine and cunning intellect, as most twenty-year-olds believe of themselves. Something that benefitted her fellow countrymen and not just the pocketbooks of the nobility. What she saw in her fellow nobles disgusted her. To them, they lived lives defined by greed, lust, and pettiness.

With her looks and brains and backed by her family's reputation and wealth, she could be anything she wanted. The hugged before parting ways. Victoria climbed into her dark red roadster, turned the ignition, and sped from the family estate. Their home was a three-story mansion on a six-acre plot in the city's wealthiest neighborhood, far from the city center.

Victoria's plan was a two week vacation at the family's small summer home on a small unnamed lake in the Western foothills. When she was a young girl, her father took her and the rest of the family there for day trips and weekend retreats. Now, with her father dead, the rest of the family never saw a need for to vacations. It would be the perfect place for Victoria to be completely alone.

This would be more than a simple vacation. It would be the first step of her new life.

She had no idea what was happening in the capital and what would await her when she returned.
