That's always my motto too. You and ID clearly rub each other the wrong way, and that's understandable. Some people just affect us that way. All I'd like to say is I always enjoy reading what you both have to say, when you're not bickering. I regard you both as more friends than acquaintances, as I'm sure many other people here do also. So, to see you both leading each other on is akin to watching two friends argue, and the unpleasantness of that makes me feel uncomfortable. You're welcome to tell me to mind my own business, and I'll not ever mention it again, but I did want to air my feelings.

PS: The "Oh yes you did!" ... "Oh no I didn't!" exchanges early on were actually quite funny, in a Monty Python kind of way.

First of all, there’s really no reason why you need to mind your own business. This is a public forum and everything here is, well, public. If it’s a matter I post publicly and tell you to MYOB I probably should have posted it privately in the first place.

And regarding the issue that seems to be between ID and myself, most have been instigated by some pet peeves mine being triggered combined with the fact that some of these are being directed at me in some way. I usually don’t get involved in issues not related to me unless they are particularly obnoxious.

Things are toned down here quite a bit. I have been known to let out a few verbal equivalents of my avatar among friends that would probably get me banned here. I’m sorry if it makes you feel a bit uncomfortable but I don’t think it should make you feel too bad. Mainly because it’s been more like an argument rather than irrational name calling and verbal ill will.

The "Oh yes you did!" ... "Oh no I didn't!" exchanges are kind of funny as well, but are mainly a result of me trying to let the issue die in my own “I’m not letting you get away with that one” sort of way. This would work, except ID is a bit like myself in this regard, so it doesn’t. I wouldn’t normally do so and would instead get it out of the way directly, but there are other private motivators that lead me to want to do this.

Just to reitterate, I enjoy reading postings from both of you. It was sheer happenstance that I piggy-backed my feelings onto your post, OS. I do understand your point of view just as surely as I understand that of ID. This is simply what happens when a blonde thinks she can play Henry Kissinger

I don't particularly see anything bad going on here. All of you figured out how to stop the "fighting", and I think that you all did it in a rather timely fashion as well.

What fun is it if you can't pick on each other, even a little? It's human nature...

I hope none of this is going to be flagged as flaming somewhere down the line =\

Honestly, if there is a problem, I think that most of us here are able to sort it out without needing censors...I might be wrong, but what has gone down in this thread I think has only backed up my opinion.

I agree completely with all your sentiments here, Dorkalicious, and am in no doubt that the mods here also have enough online experience to discriminate 'strong opinions forcefully expressed' from flaming. I'll go back to my cubby hole now and try and write something funny

PS: Ocean Soul, I have a feeling the animated gif for your avatar originally came from a site called "Stick Figure Death Theater" (or similar). Somebody asked earlier in the thread, so I thought I'd pass along that info.

OS - I enjoy our sparing on here. True it can be rather intense and even a little brash, but I respect you for standing up for your views.

As far as anyone expressing their thoughts about our bickering, I agree with Ocean, if I didn't want you to say anything, I would do it in private.

Maybe we should change the title of this thread to:
So you want to verbally spar someone up

And yes that was my attempt at stupid moronic humor.
I have had a pissy week, and needed to get that one out.
I have enjoyed this thread though.

No reason for anyone to comment on a healthy exchange of ideas. Besides, if the Mods had come in and said anything, we never would have seen ID's "nu uh". That was my best laugh of the day!

I just appreciate all parties involved acting like mature adults.

Well, in a really cute, juvenile type way.

Nothing really to see here anyway. The portion that is actually serious is borderline at best.

Every time I see the thread title I want to correct the split infinitive of 'tie someone up'.

I've been going back and forth between the thread title and your post...

    I don't get it...

Just my silly sense of humor, OS

Strictly speaking, there's no rule that says you can't use split infinitives with the most common example of good use of a split infinitive being the line from the Star Trek opening: "To boldly go..."

But, mousey, it's not a split infinitive at all! 'to someone tie up' would be. But this is a compound verb, (to tie + up), 'to tie' being the infinitive, and 'up' being an additional part of speech whose name I can no longer remember; it is correct to put the object (in this case, the thing - or person - being tied. Up.) between the infinitive 'to tie' and the - whatever, may be a substantive - 'up'

    Ah! Noted, moptop.

I was thinking of prepositions and Churchill's most famous buggering of over-correctness:

“This is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”

Absolutely, OS! There's a lot of nonsense words and phrases I love to use purely for that reason. The Washington Post annually publishes a list of nonsense words and their meanings made up by readers. I wish I could find some because they're often very, very clever.

I suck at cooking! One time I tried boiling hot dogs for dinner, and burnt them, ruined the pot. So I am now learning that you can vaporize water from a bowl of noodles in the microwave. Did you know they go back to hard when you do that?
